Ingredients (Extract5 gal)

  • 1 lbs Crystal Malt 60°L

    Crystal Malt 60°L

    Sweet caramel flavor, deep golden to red color. For dark amber and brown ales.

  • .5 lbs Belgian Cara-Pils

    Belgian Cara-Pils

    Significantly increases foam/head retention and body of the beer.

  • 3 lbs Dry Light Extract

    Dry Light Extract

    White color, mild flavor. Will produce lagers and Pilseners and can also be used to produce darker beers when used in conjunction with colored malts. Made of pale malt.

  • 3.3 lbs Liquid Light Extract

    Liquid Light Extract

    A brewer can create any beer style with this extract when used as a base in conjunction with colored malts and selected hops. Contains no colored malts or hops.

  • 1.25 oz Northern Brewer - 8.0 AA% whole; boiled 60 min

    Northern Brewer

    Used for bittering with strong flavors and very fragrant in steam beers, dark English ales, and German lagers. Aroma is medium-strong with evergreen and mint overtones.

  • 1 1/2 oz Cascade - 5.5 AA% whole; boiled 15 min

    Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • 1 1/2 oz Cascade - 5.5 AA% whole; boiled 1 min

    Wyeast 1332 Northwest Ale™

    One of the classic ale strains from the Northwest U.S. Breweries. Produces a malty and mildly fruity ale with good depth and complexity.

Notes

Crystal and carapils were steeped at ~155 degrees for 30 minutes and sparged with one quart of ~170 degree water. It's outside the style parameters, but it seems to be a pretty basic beer with a fairly high abv and hop rate. Despite the calculations, my OG came in at just 1.052. It's not the most original batch in the world, but I've got high hopes for it. It's sitting in the primary now. Wish me luck.
