Hop Burst Technique

2009-09-24 11:30am

Looks like an excellent brew, but the name is what caught my eye. I've been reading about a relatively new, or at least new to me, late hop brewing technique called "Hop Burst." In short, it's for IPA type hoppy brews, and it's where you add most or all of your hops within the last 20 minutes of the boil. I'm going to try it for the first time this weekend, but I've heard multiple people speak highly of it. In the spirit of your brew's name, you should think about using the Hop Burst technique.

real hop burst on his way

I have brewed this recipe with little variations twice with good result. But a hop burst means that you should add a large amount of hops added during the end of boiling. So this week I brew them the third time, but I split in half the two Cascades hops addition. And I add another cascades addition 15 minutes before the end of boiling two times bigger then the 2 fist additions (read ratio 1-1-2). Yesterday I have transferred the beer in second fermentation, odours were sublimes. This is what I was expecting. a little least bitter but much more aromas. For the dry hopping I used Fuggle (22g) as the recipe and Amarillo (6g) In the same this I have brewed the dogfish 90IPA clone recipe in BYO of this year. I will be able to see if continuous hopping is that wonderful. My verdict in three month
