Brutus Bitter

Brewing this weekend. I love a good bitter. Reusing Irish Stout yeast from previous batch to see how that turns out.

Ingredients (All Grain5.77 gal)

  • 8 lbs Maris Otter Pale

    Maris Otter Pale

An English thoroughbred and a favored choice of malt for many brewers. Simpsons' Maris Otter has a rich and nutty flavor and despite its small, berry size has a strong husk. This malt delivers predictable brewhouse performance with modest, yet consistent extracts. Brewers can expect good runoffs with clear wort.

  • .5 lbs Belgian Biscuit

    Belgian Biscuit

Warm baked biscuit flavor and aroma. Increases body. Use in Belgian beers.

  • .6 lbs Crystal Malt 120°L

    Crystal Malt 120°L

Pronounced caramel flavor and a red color. For stouts, porters and black beers.

  • .5 oz Brewers Gold - 8.0 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    Brewers Gold

Sibling of and similar to Bullion only maturing earlier and more disease resistant. English/wild Canadian cross. Pungent English character. very poor

  • .5 oz Challenger - 6.3 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    Challenger

Popular bittering hop used primarily in British ales and lagers. Mild to moderate aroma, but quite spicy.

  • .5 oz East Kent Goldings - 5.4 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    East Kent Goldings

    Mild, slightly flowery.

  • 1 tsp Irish Moss - (omitted from calculations)

    Irish Moss

  • 1 tbsp 5.2 Stabizer - (omitted from calculations)

    5.2 Stabizer

  • White Labs WLP004 Irish Stout

    White Labs WLP004 Irish Stout

This is the yeast from one of the oldest stout producing breweries in the world. It produces a slight hint of diacetyl, balanced by a light frui|iness and slight dry crispness. Great for Irish ales, stouts, porters, browns, reds and a very interesting pal

Notes
