Don't believe the IBUs. This is a heavenly Imperial IPA. 12/16/08 Our Brewer's Guild tasted it and loved it.

Ingredients (All Grain5.0 gal)

  • 13.5 lbs American 2-row

    American 2-row

    Yields a slightly higher extract than Six Rox brewers Malt. Tends to give a smoother, less grainy flavored beer. Some brewers claim they can detect a significant difference in flavor. Lower protein and will yield a lower color than Six-Row Brewers Malt

  • 0.5 lbs American Caramel 40°L

    American Caramel 40°L

    Provides color, a unique flavor, body, and contributes to foam retention and beer stability.

  • 0.5 lbs White Wheat Malt

    White Wheat Malt

    Weizens. Improves head retention in all beers. Contributes spicy flavor. Protein rest required.

  • 1 lbs Corn Sugar

    Corn Sugar

    Use in priming beer or in extract recipes where flaked maize would be used in a mash.

  • 1 oz Cascade - 5.5 AA% whole; boiled 90 min

    Cascade

    Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • 2 oz Magnum - 14.5 AA% whole; boiled 90 min

    Magnum

    Bred in 1980 at Germany’s Hüll Hop Research Center, this high-alpha variety is renowned for its exceptionally large, heavy cones. Hallertauer Magnum delivers excellent yields and, like many Hüll-developed hops, boasts a strong resistance to disease.

  • 3 oz Chinook - 13.0 AA% whole; boiled 90 min

    Chinook

    Spicy, Medium to Heavy.Very strong bittering ability used in all American ales and lagers. Aroma is very floral.

  • 1 oz Simcoe® - 13.0 AA% whole; boiled 45 min

    Simcoe®

    Used for aromatic, and especially bittering properties.

  • 1 oz Columbus - 15.0 AA% whole; boiled 30 min

    Columbus

    Used mainly for bittering with some flavor qualities as well. Aroma is pleasant.

  • 1 oz Cascade - 5.5 AA% whole; boiled 15 min

    Cascade

    Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • 2.75 oz Centennial - 10.0 AA% whole; boiled 1 min

    Centennial

    Aromatic but acceptable for bittering. Medium aroma with floral and citrus tones. Good in medium to dark ales.

  • 1.5 oz Centennial - 10.0 AA% whole; added dry to secondary fermenter

    Aromatic but acceptable for bittering. Medium aroma with floral and citrus tones. Good in medium to dark ales.

  • 2 oz Columbus - 15.0 AA% whole; added dry to secondary fermenter

Great Imperial IPA

This recipe was modeled after Founders Centennial IPA. Anyone wishing to brew it should email me at mikfir@sbcglobal.net. Beertools does not list three of the hops used nor could I enter the entire procedure.
