First Snow IPA

First Snow IPA

American IPA • All Grain • 6 gal

CarlosOjeda

The bittering hop in this recipe is actually Summit at 18.1% AA. BeerTools doesn't have Summit as a choice. The grains were mashed at 150*F for one hour, with the temp dropping to 148*F. Irish moss as well as 5.2pH stabilizer were also used.

Ingredients (All Grain6 gal)

  • 11 lbs Maris Otter Pale

    Maris Otter Pale

An English thoroughbred and a favored choice of malt for many brewers. Simpsons' Maris Otter has a rich and nutty flavor and despite its small, berry size has a strong husk. This malt delivers predictable brewhouse performance with modest, yet consistent extracts. Brewers can expect good runoffs with clear wort.

  • 2 lbs Crystal Malt 40°L

  • 1 lbs Belgian Biscuit

    Belgian Special B

  • 10/16 lbs Barley Flaked

    Barley Flaked

Helps head retention, imparts creamy smoothness. For porters and stouts.

  • 1 oz Nugget - 18.1 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    Nugget

This is very bitter and often used in medium to dark ales and lagers. Aroma is quite heavy and herbal.

  • 1 oz Amarillo® - 8.5 AA% pellets; boiled 30 min

    Amarillo®

Grown in Washington. A newer multi-use hop with a nice citrus-flower bouquet and medium-high acid content suited for bittering. Used in American Ales and IPAs.

  • 1.5 oz Cascade - 4.5 AA% whole; boiled 10 min

    Cascade

Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • White Labs WLP008 East Coast Ale

White Labs WLP008 East Coast Ale

Our "Brewer Patriot" strain can be used to reproduce many of the American versions of classic beer styles. Similar neutral character of WLP001, but less attenuation, less accentuation of hop bitterness, increased flocculation, and a little tartness. Very
