Wyeast 1056 American Ale™
Wyeast 1056 American Ale™
Used commercially for several classic American ales. This strain ferments dry, finishes soft, smooth and dean, and is very well balanced.
Notes
Mash at 149F for 90 minutes. Boil 60 minutes. Ferment at 67F. This is slightly different from Jamil's recipe. I used Chinook for bittering instead of Horizon. Also, the final addition of Amarillo leaf was done with a HopBack. *Note: The Crystal Malt 20L is actually Crystal Malt 15L.

Brewed 3/15/08

Brewed as part of a double brew session with the Irish Red Ale. Everything went well. I experimented with using less overall water in this batch wondering if I would get a richer malt flavor. I ended up having to drain nearly everything out of the brew kettle though, so perhaps I reduced the water too much. Next time I should be able to find a happy medium. OG = 1.066 #56

Just wanted to say that this turned out great. No surprises, just a really great American IPA with really incredible hop character (especially considering there are no dry hops) and nice drinkability. I highly recommend this recipe to anyone who wants to try out a really good standard American IPA.
Very solid IPA

I brewed this awhile back and it was a very solid IPA. I would definitely brew this again.
