Hair of the Dog

Hair of the Dog

American Pale Ale • Extract • 5 gal

To explain the name of this beer, I discovered to my horror while brewing my first ever batch of pale ale that a single airborne strand of blonde hair from my yellow Lab, Skylos, had landed in the chilled wort. I managed to fish it out, but was certain that the batch was contaminated. Fortunately, it turned out quite nicely. "Hair of the dog" is an expression that means "drink" or "refreshment" so Hair of the Dog Pale Ale was born and my dog Skylos appears on the label. (By the way, Skylos is the Greek word for "dog," in case you were wondering.) I have not brewed this particular recipe but was rather just trying out the recipe generator. If you try it out, please mention it in the beer forum. Cheers.

    Imperial Yeast A09 Pub

Brewers swear by this strain to achieve super bright ales in a short amount of time. One of the most flocculent brewer’s strains around, Pub will rip through fermentation and then drop out of the beer quickly. Pub produces higher levels of esters than most domestic ale strains. Be sure to give beers made with Pub a sufficient diacetyl rest.
