Ingredients (Extract5 gal)

  • 0.25 lbs Belgian Caravienne

    Belgian Caravienne

    Belgian light crystal malt. Used in lighter Abbey or Trappist style ales.

  • 0.5 lbs American Black Roast

    American Black Roast

    Adds a heavy roast flavor and dark color.

  • 0.25 lbs Belgian Cara-Pils

    Belgian Cara-Pils

    Significantly increases foam/head retention and body of the beer.

  • 1 lbs Crystal Malt 20°L

    Crystal Malt 20°L

    Sweet, mild caramel flavor and a golden color. Use in light lagers and light ales.

  • 3.75 lbs Dry Amber Extract

    Dry Amber Extract

    Cream-colored and full-flavored; will produce amber colored beers such as pale ales, IPAs, and bitters. Made of pale and crystal malts.

  • 3.3 lbs Liquid Dark Extract

    Liquid Dark Extract

    Used predominantly in the production of dark beers such as milds, browns, porters, and stouts.

  • 1 oz Nugget - 13.0 AA% whole; boiled 60 min

    This is very bitter and often used in medium to dark ales and lagers. Aroma is quite heavy and herbal.

  • 1 oz Challenger - 6.6 AA% whole; boiled 60 min

    Challenger

    Popular bittering hop used primarily in British ales and lagers. Mild to moderate aroma, but quite spicy.

  • 1 oz Target - 10.0 AA% whole; boiled 60 min

    Target

    Used for its robust bittering ability in British ales and lagers. Aroma is quite intense.

  • 1.5 oz Cascade - 5.5 AA% whole; boiled 8 min

    Cascade

    Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • 2 oz Challenger - 6.6 AA% whole; boiled 8 min

    Challenger

    Popular bittering hop used primarily in British ales and lagers. Mild to moderate aroma, but quite spicy.

  • 1 tsp Irish Moss - (omitted from calculations)

    Produces a beer that is clean and well balanced.

Notes

Irish Moss directly added 15 minutes before the end of the boil. Prime with 0.6 cup corn sugar in about 1 pint of boiled water. Age in bottle 1-3 months.
