Gobhoblin - Hobgoblin Clone

Gobhoblin - Hobgoblin Clone

Old Ale • All Grain • 36 L

Matthew Jolly

This is a recipe made to clone the old Hobgoblin before the recipe tweaks in the early 2000's. It uses information from tHe Real Ale Almanac, which has information from the Brewery itself. It is a very close approximation of what Hobgoblin used to be.

Ingredients (All Grain36 L)

  • 9 kg Maris Otter Pale

    Maris Otter Pale

An English thoroughbred and a favored choice of malt for many brewers. Simpsons' Maris Otter has a rich and nutty flavor and despite its small, berry size has a strong husk. This malt delivers predictable brewhouse performance with modest, yet consistent extracts. Brewers can expect good runoffs with clear wort.

  • 70 g Fuggle - 4.8 AA% whole; boiled 90 min

    Fuggle

Mild. Mainly used for finishing and dry hopping especially pale ales, porters, and stouts. Aroma is mild and pleasant, spicy, and soft.

  • 50 g Styrian Goldings - 6.0 AA% whole; boiled 0 min

    Styrian Goldings

    Mild, pleasant.

  • Wyeast 1275 Thames Valley Ale™

Not a bad brew

I made this with a friend on his first solo brew, I just oversaw it. It turned out quite well. Nice and rich, and not far off the old style hobgoblin. Just a tip - Don't drink 3 pints in an hour then go to the pub and have 4 pints of real ale. It turns your brain to mush...
