Ingredients (All Grain5 gal)

  • 5 lbs American 2-row

    American 2-row

Yields a slightly higher extract than Six Rox brewers Malt. Tends to give a smoother, less grainy flavored beer. Some brewers claim they can detect a significant difference in flavor. Lower protein and will yield a lower color than Six-Row Brewers Malt

  • .5 lbs Belgian Cara-Pils

    Belgian Cara-Pils

Significantly increases foam/head retention and body of the beer.

  • 6 lbs Maris Otter Pale

    Maris Otter Pale

An English thoroughbred and a favored choice of malt for many brewers. Simpsons' Maris Otter has a rich and nutty flavor and despite its small, berry size has a strong husk. This malt delivers predictable brewhouse performance with modest, yet consistent extracts. Brewers can expect good runoffs with clear wort.

  • .5 lbs British Crystal 55°L

    British Crystal 55°L

Sweet caramel flavor, adds mouthfeel and head retention. For pale or amber ales.

  • 1.5 oz Cascade - 5.7 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    Cascade

Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • 1 oz Cascade - 5.7 AA% pellets; boiled 15 min

    Cascade

Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • .5 oz Cascade - 5.7 AA% pellets; boiled 0 min

    Cascade

Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • White Labs WLP001 California Ale

    White Labs WLP001 California Ale

This yeast is famous for its clean flavors, balance and ability to be used in almost any style ale. It accentuates the hop flavors and is extremely versatile.

Notes

Mash at 152F for 1 hour. Ferment at 68F for one week, rack and dry hop with 1 oz Cascade for two weeks before kegging/bottling. BTW, the yeast is actually the White Labs American Ale Blend...I think it is WLP060.

Summary

Forgot to update when I brewed this. No problems, mashed at 154F for one hour, 75 minute boil, chilled to 65F and pitched yeast. Primary for six days, and it has been in secondary since. Took a hydro sample today, gravity was at roughly 1.015 (I didn't take temp readings either). Tastes very similar to SNPA - gotta love those Cascades! We will see how well it goes over at the club meeting in October.
