Ingredients (All Grain4.54 L)

  • 1.3 kg American 2-row

    American 2-row

    Yields a slightly higher extract than Six Rox brewers Malt. Tends to give a smoother, less grainy flavored beer. Some brewers claim they can detect a significant difference in flavor. Lower protein and will yield a lower color than Six-Row Brewers Malt

  • .04 kg Crystal Malt 80°L

    Crystal Malt 80°L

    Body and Richness. Distictive Nutty flavor and or sweet, smooth caramel flavor and a red to deep red color. For porters, old ales.

  • .002 kg English Black Roast

    English Black Roast

    Adds a heavy roast flavor and dark color.

  • .2 kg Golden Promise Pale

    Golden Promise Pale

    An especially sweet and clean variety of barley which results in full and malty sweet beer. It has superb hush integrity and delivers fast and consistent mash tun drainage. This malt variety is perfect for brewing up a clear, bright pint.

  • .02 kg Barley Flaked

    Barley Flaked

    Helps head retention, imparts creamy smoothness. For porters and stouts.

  • 10 g Northern Brewer - 8.0 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    Northern Brewer

    Used for bittering with strong flavors and very fragrant in steam beers, dark English ales, and German lagers. Aroma is medium-strong with evergreen and mint overtones.

  • 4 g Fuggle - 4.8 AA% pellets; boiled 15 min

    Fuggle

    Mild. Mainly used for finishing and dry hopping especially pale ales, porters, and stouts. Aroma is mild and pleasant, spicy, and soft.

  • 4 g East Kent Goldings - 5.0 AA% pellets; boiled 3 min

    East Kent Goldings

    Mild, slightly flowery.

  • Wyeast 1098 British Ale™

    Wyeast 1098 British Ale™

    From Whitbread. Ferments dry and crisp, slightly tart, fruity and well-balanced. Ferments well down to 65F.

Notes

Another test brew. This one is actually at the end of secondary fermentation right now. Going to filter and carbonate this week. I really like this beer. Going to try and brew one to 19L and see what others think. This will be entered into competition in March as well.

I personally really enjoyed this ale. Good aromatics, flavour. I will post more results as they come in from other competitions.

going to the Canadians

This IPA garnered a silver medal at the Ontario's and is advancing to the Canadian's. I will post the comments from the Judges at Canadian's later. judges at teh ontario's felt that it needed more alcohol, hops and malt, but was very good.

Bronze at Canadians

Just found out late last night that this beer earned a Bronze medal at the AWC competition 2005. I have not yet recieved the comments but will post as soon at they arrive
