Ingredients (Extract5 gal)

  • .5 lbs American Black Patent

    American Black Patent

Provides color and sharp flavor in stouts and porters.

  • .25 lbs American Chocolate Malt

    American Chocolate Malt

Use in all types to adjust color and add nutty, toasted flavor. Chocolate flavor.

  • 8 lbs Liquid Dark Extract

    Liquid Dark Extract

Used predominantly in the production of dark beers such as milds, browns, porters, and stouts.

  • .25 lbs Malto Dextrin

    Malto Dextrin

Adds body and mouthfeel. For all extract beers. Does not ferment.

  • 1 oz Challenger - 8.0 AA% whole; boiled 60 min

    Challenger

Popular bittering hop used primarily in British ales and lagers. Mild to moderate aroma, but quite spicy.

  • 1 oz Northern Brewer - 8.0 AA% whole; boiled 15 min

    Northern Brewer

Used for bittering with strong flavors and very fragrant in steam beers, dark English ales, and German lagers. Aroma is medium-strong with evergreen and mint overtones.

  • 1 oz East Kent Goldings - 5.0 AA% whole; boiled 1 min

    East Kent Goldings

    Mild, slightly flowery.

  • White Labs WLP013 London Ale

    White Labs WLP013 London Ale

Dry, malty ale yeast. Provides a complex, oakey ester character to your beer. Hop bitterness comes through well. This yeast is well suited for classic British pale ales, bitters, and stouts. Does not flocculate as much as WLP002 and WLP005.

Notes

Brewed on 11/28/2003 with the old man. OG = 1.065, slightly higher than prediction, but I forgot and measured after yeast pitch. Dad says "that's OK". Kegged on 12/16/2003, with a FG=1.027, for a %ABV of 5.00. Tastes really niced after the secondary, smooth and mild to medium for a bitter. Should be very drinkable, looking forward to aging it for a 2-3 weeks. Will be a great New Years brew.
