Ingredients (Extract5 gal)

  • 0.41 lbs American Black Patent

    American Black Patent

Provides color and sharp flavor in stouts and porters.

  • .75 lbs American Chocolate Malt

    American Chocolate Malt

Use in all types to adjust color and add nutty, toasted flavor. Chocolate flavor.

  • 5 lbs Dry Dark Extract

    Dry Dark Extract

Used predominantly in the production of dark beers such as milds, browns, porters, and stouts.

  • 2 lbs Maple Syrup

    Maple Syrup

Imparts a dry, woodsy flavor if used in the boil. If beer is bottled with it, it gives it a smooth sweet, maple taste. Use in maple ales, pale ales, brown ales and porters.

  • 2 oz Cascade - 5.5 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    Cascade

Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • 0.25 oz Northern Brewer - 8.0 AA% pellets; boiled 15 min

    Northern Brewer

Used for bittering with strong flavors and very fragrant in steam beers, dark English ales, and German lagers. Aroma is medium-strong with evergreen and mint overtones.

  • 0.25 oz Tettnanger - 4.5 AA% pellets; boiled 1 min

    Tettnanger

    Mild, slightly spicy. 'Noble'.

  • White Labs WLP005 British Ale

    White Labs WLP005 British Ale

This yeast is a little more attenuative than WLP002. Like most English strains, this yeast produces malty beers. Excellent for all English style ales including bitter, pale ale, porter, and brown ale.

Great porter

I brewed this about 2 months ago. Great porter. I expected more maple falvor. I really shows up in the aftertaste. Next time I brew this I think I'll back off on the hops and add the syrup at the end of the boil. Everybody that's tried this batch has loved it though.
