Ingredients (Extract5 gal)

  • .50 lbs Crystal Malt 60°L

    Crystal Malt 60°L

    Sweet caramel flavor, deep golden to red color. For dark amber and brown ales.

  • .25 lbs American Chocolate Malt

    American Chocolate Malt

    Use in all types to adjust color and add nutty, toasted flavor. Chocolate flavor.

  • .125 lbs English Black Roast

    English Black Roast

    Adds a heavy roast flavor and dark color.

  • 6.6 lbs Liquid Amber Extract

    Liquid Amber Extract

    Amber is used predominantly in the production of medium-colored beers such as pale ales, IPAs, and bitters.

  • 0.25 lbs Oats Flaked

    Oats Flaked

    Belgian White Ale(wit), other specialty beers.

  • 0.25 lbs Molasses

    Molasses

    Imparts strong sweet flavor. Use in stouts and porters.

  • .50 oz Fuggle - 5.4 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    Fuggle

    Mild. Mainly used for finishing and dry hopping especially pale ales, porters, and stouts. Aroma is mild and pleasant, spicy, and soft.

  • .25 oz East Kent Goldings - 5.4 AA% pellets; boiled 30 min

  • .50 oz East Kent Goldings - 5.4 AA% pellets; boiled 0 min

  • Wyeast 1098 British Ale™

    Wyeast 1098 British Ale™

    From Whitbread. Ferments dry and crisp, slightly tart, fruity and well-balanced. Ferments well down to 65F.

Notes

NOTE: The use of molasses in this recipe is optional. If you don't care the taste of molasses, feel free to omit it or replace it with an equal amount brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, etc. Place grains in a grain bag and steep them in 2 gallons of 150-160F water for 30 minutes. Sparge with 1 gallon of 168F water. Top kettle up to full boil volume and bring to a boil. Add the amber LME and molasses (if using) and bring back to boil. Boil for 1 hour. Add hops at the times listed in the recipe.
