Ingredients (All Grain5.5 gal)

  • 12 lbs American 6-row Pale

    American 6-row Pale

    Tends to increase lautering efficiency due to a stiffer husk. May be used as the base malt for any beer style. The enzymes in all varieties of the current crop are sufficient to support high percentages of specialty malts and adjuncts.

  • 1/2 lbs Belgian Cara-Pils

    Belgian Cara-Pils

    Significantly increases foam/head retention and body of the beer.

  • 2 lbs Corn Flaked (Maize)

    Corn Flaked (Maize)

    Generally a neutral flavor, used to reduce maltiness of beer. Produces beer with a milder, less malty flavor. Uses: Primarily for light Bohemian and Pilsner lagers.

  • 1 oz Cluster - 7.0 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    Cluster

    Used for bittering and flavor qualities in light and dark American lagers. Aroma is very floral.

  • 2 oz Liberty - 4.0 AA% pellets; boiled 15 min

    Liberty

    Used mainly for finishing German and American style ales and lagers. Aroma is mild and pleasant.

  • 1 oz Saaz - 5.0 AA% whole; boiled 1 min

    Saaz

    Used for finishing pilseners, continental lagers, and wheats. The aroma is spicy and pleasant with fragrant overtones.

Notes

Kirby Puckett is the Classic American hero of the Minnesota baseball fans. I named this pre-Prohibition Classic American Pilsner after Kirby because my mom loves him. This hits the numbers of a pre-pro CAP but BEERTOOLS.COM does not have a CAP as a category. ================================= The mash process is a step infusion mash, with rests at 122° F (30 min), 150° F (60 min), and 168° F (5 min). ================================= Primary Fermentation: 50 F. for 14 days. Secondary Fermentation: 40 F. for 28 days. Bottle Condition: 65 F. for 28 days.

Second Place! Minnesota Brewers Campout

This beer won second place in the Aug. 2, 2002 Minnesota Brewers Campout competition. . Each of four Minnesota brew clubs meet for a campout each year, and each club is invited to submit "Best of Club" in four chosen beer styles. This year's styles were: Porter, Belgians, Open Pilsners, and Session Beers. This beer won the Best of Club, and Second Place in the overall competition in the Open Pilsner category.
