  • .5 lbs Crystal Malt 40°L

    Crystal Malt 40°L

    Sweet, mild caramel flavor and a golden color. Use in light lagers and light ales.

  • .33 lbs American Victory

    American Victory

    Provides a deep golden to brown color. Use in nut brown ales, IPAs and Scottish ales.

  • .5 lbs Crystal 45; Crisp

    Crystal 45; Crisp

    Sweet, mild caramel flavor and a golden color. Use in light lagers and light ales.

  • .33 lbs Cara-Pils® Malt; Briess

    Cara-Pils® Malt; Briess

    Characteristics & Applications: • The endosperm is completely glassy and will appear to be darker than standard Brewers Malt. • Carapils® is a very unique dextrine-style malt that adds body, foam retention, and beer stability without influencing color or flavor. • Use to upgrade all types of beer, including light colored beers. • The non-fermentables in Carapils® are very advantageous in balancing body and flavor of dark colored beers. • May be used with or without other specialty malts. • Low usage of 1-5% will help achieve desired results. • Produced from AMBA/BMBRI recommended 2-Row Malting Barley varieties.

    Neutral. This hop can be very bitter, but blends well with finishing hops. Used in American ales and lagers, but suitable for all beer styles. Aroma is medium but pleasant.

  • 1 oz Amarillo® - 8.5 AA% pellets; boiled 25 min

    Amarillo®

    Grown in Washington. A newer multi-use hop with a nice citrus-flower bouquet and medium-high acid content suited for bittering. Used in American Ales and IPAs.

  • 1 oz Liberty - 4.0 AA% pellets; boiled 2 min

    Liberty

    Used mainly for finishing German and American style ales and lagers. Aroma is mild and pleasant.

  • Wyeast 1332 Northwest Ale™

    Wyeast 1332 Northwest Ale™

    One of the classic ale strains from the Northwest U.S. Breweries. Produces a malty and mildly fruity ale with good depth and complexity.

Notes

Like the Continental Congress in July 1776, this beer is declaring Independence from England. Only All-American ingredients in this recipe. Steep grains at 145 degrees for 15 minutes and 152 degrees for 45 minutes. Sparge with 1 gallon of water at 170 degrees. Add first DME at begining of boil and add second DME at 35 minutes. Liquid extract at 20 minutes. Pitched yeast at 75 degrees. OG 1.053. FG 1.015. 5.0%.
