Ingredients (All Grain11 gal)

  • 16 lbs Pale Ale Malt; Briess

    Pale Ale Malt; Briess

Golden color with a malty flavor. Characteristics & Applications: • Can be used as a base malt. • More pronounced malty flavor than 2-Row Brewers Malt. • Use with 2-Row Brewers Malt for rich malt flavor and additional color. • Produced from AMBA/BMBRI recommended 2-Row Malting Barley varieties.

  • 1.5 lbs Caramel Malt 60L; Briess

    Caramel Malt 60L; Briess

Sweet, pronounced caramel flavor. Characteristics & Applications: • In contrast to Brewers Malt, glassiness is a distinguishing characteristic of Caramel Malt. The glassy endosperm creates the desirable non-fermentable components giving true Caramel Malt the ability to contribute body (mouthfeel), foam, foam retention, and extended beer stability, while contributing color and unique caramel flavor. • 2-Row Caramel Malt 60L is a roasted caramel malt that imparts deep golden to red color. • Use 3-7% for Pilsener-style beers for balance. • Use 5-15% to provide color, sweetness and color to amber and red beers. • Produced from AMBA/BMBRI recommended 2-Row Malting Barley varieties.

  • .125 lbs Black Malt; Briess

    Black Malt; Briess

Neutral flavor. Characteristics & Applications: • Use in all beer styles for color adjustment. • Provides the color and sharp, almost acrid, flavor that is characteristic of Stouts and Porters. • Use 1-10% for desired color in Porter and Stout. • Black Malt has a distinctive malty flavor and is not interchangeable with Roasted Barley. • Produced from AMBA/BMBRI recommended 6-Row Malting Barley varieties.

Hit some of my numbers

2012-06-14 9:12am

O.G. 1.046. Pitched WL007 from a 3.75ml starter. Controlled ferment at 67F. Looks a little dark, but we shall see once its in a glass. Missed my mash. Mashed at 151F for 20 minutes, then 155 for 40 minutes. Crashed on day 10 in carboy. Kegged on day 15. F.G. 1.014. Yeast was very easy to work with. Next time try hitting a mash of 152, to see if I can get attenuation down to 1.010-1.012

Good Bitter

Turned out well. Not too dark. Judges said it needed to be more bitter, but I don't think so. Maybe bump it 5 ibu.

This recipe now represents the 5 ibu higher. O.G. was 1.046. Repitched slurry WLP013 150ml/carboy at 64F. Free rise to 68F.

Mashed at 149-150, so hopefully this one will dry out appropriately.

Maybe grain miss weigh, but got 1.056. Used Simpsons Golden Promise, EKG, with First Gold at 1 min. Kegged 2/4/16. Pitched at 63F, warmed to 68 F. WY007. Kegged at 1.014, but seemed quite dry, not sweet.

This beer is actually an ESB. It tastes fine and fits guidelines for an ESB. Good luck and brew on.

Sorry mikfir

I overshot the gravity, so i adjusted the mash efficiency to see whether it was possible the golden promise was way more efficient or if i miss weighed my grain. Turns out it was a weight prob but i didn't adjust recipe back. Original batch was og 1.046. Still in best bitter guidelines. Will adjust recipe back soon.
