Great Dane Amber Lager

Great Dane Amber Lager

Dark American Lager • Extract • 5 gal

Great Dane Amber Lager

Add 1-2 lbs. of honey at the beginning of the boil depending on how sweet you like your beer. I added 2 pounds and it came out to be fairly sweet and it was reminiscent of Honeymoon which is brewed by Blue Moon. The WL 820 takes a long time (4-5 days) to get started. Let it ferment for about 1 month and then age for about 3-4 weeks. Very nice malty flavor. I tapped it during the spring and it gives a very nice compliment to the nice weather.

Ingredients (Extract5 gal)

  • 0.07 lbs Amber; Crisp

    Amber; Crisp

Unlike Crystal or Caramalt, the starting material for Amber Malt is a kilned Pale Ale malt. Amber Malt is typically used as a small proportion of the grist (0.5%) in the preparation of beers requiring some substantial depth of color.

  • 0.53 lbs Crystal 77; Crisp

    Crystal 77; Crisp

Sweet, mild caramel flavor and a golden color. Use in light lagers and light ales.

  • 4.96 lbs Amber Dry; Brewferm

    Amber Dry; Brewferm

Highest quality malt extract powder. Does not contain any proteins.

  • 0.64 lbs Candi Sugar Amber

    Candi Sugar Amber

Smooth taste, good head retention, sweet aroma and high gravity without being apparent. Use in Belgian and holiday ales. Use clear for tripels, amber for dubbels, and dark is used in brown beer and strong golden ales.

  • 0.6 oz Styrian Goldings - 6.0 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    Styrian Goldings

    Mild, pleasant.

  • White Labs WLP820 Octoberfest/Märzen Lager

    White Labs WLP820 Octoberfest/Märzen Lager

This yeast produces a very malty, bock like style. It does not finish as dry as WLP830. This yeast is much slower in the first generation than WLP830, so we encourage a larger starter to be used the first generation or schedule a longer lagering time.
