Ingredients (Extract5 gal)

  • 0.5 lbs American Munich

    American Munich

    Munich Dunkels. Adds color/nutty flavor. Sometimes called Aromatic.

  • 0.75 lbs Crystal Malt 20°L

    Crystal Malt 20°L

    Sweet, mild caramel flavor and a golden color. Use in light lagers and light ales.

  • 6.0 lbs Dry Light Extract

    Dry Light Extract

    White color, mild flavor. Will produce lagers and Pilseners and can also be used to produce darker beers when used in conjunction with colored malts. Made of pale malt.

  • 1.0 oz Horizon - 12.0 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    Horizon

    Pedigree A diploid high alpha, low co-humulone selection. Cross made in Oregon in 1970, half-sister of Nugget. Typical Beer Styles All Ales and Lagers.

  • 0.50 oz Challenger - 8.0 AA% pellets; boiled 15 min

    Challenger

    Popular bittering hop used primarily in British ales and lagers. Mild to moderate aroma, but quite spicy.

  • 0.50 oz Simcoe® - 13.0 AA% pellets; boiled 1 min

    Simcoe®

    Used for aromatic, and especially bittering properties.

  • 1 oz Irish Moss - (omitted from calculations)

    Irish Moss

    A dried red-brown marine algae. Fining agent to remove large proteins. Negatively charged polymer attracts positively charged protein-tannin complexes (extracted from grain husks and hops) during the boil. This action is aided by the clumping of proteins in the boiling process. Irish moss settles to the bottom of the brew kettle with spent hops and hot break material at the end of the boil.

end gravity a touch too high, not enough time on brew

initially looked too dark for style, but into bottle looking fine. tastes nice too. perhaps a dry hop into fermenter after a few days to bring out "fresh" hop taste next time
