    2-Row Caramel Malt 40L; Briess

Sweet, Caramel, Toffee. S Characteristics & Applications: • In contrast to Brewers Malt, glassiness is a distinguishing characteristic of Caramel Malt. The glassy endosperm creates the desirable non-fermentable components giving true Caramel Malt the ability to contribute body (mouthfeel), foam foam retention, and extended beer stability, while contributing color and unique caramel flavor. • 2-Row Caramel Malt 40L is a roasted caramel malt that imparts golden to light red color. • Use 3-7% for Pilsener-style beers for balance. • Use 5-15% to provide color, sweetness and color to light amber beers. • Produced from AMBA/BMBRI recommended 2-Row Malting Barley varieties.

first taste

okay so here is a late comment but i thought it needed to be noted. The recipe was designed somewhat after goose islands IPA using only American Grown hop pellets. I bottled this after 7 days in primary and 14 days in secondary where i dry hopped it with cascades, centennial, and willametes pellets (1 ounce each) that i just added right on top (i forgot to add the hops before i racked it to let the beer drain over the hop). When bottling i drank 4 glasses it was so good. gonna open a bottle tomorrow as it has been in the bottle 14 days now and will post the results, so far so good. I primed it with the standard 3/4 cup of dextrose/corn sugar. The batch yielded 52 12 ounce beers. This was my first self designed extract recipe.
