Hopasaurus Rex
American Amber Ale • Extract • 5 gal
A hoppy American Amber Ale. Don't let the IBU's fool you, it's got alot of hop flavor instead of bitterness.

Notes
Steep@155 for 20 min. Bring to boil. Add extract and bring to boil again. Add hops. Primary 7-10 days. Bottle condition with 3oz. corn sugar for 3 weeks mininum. Also, I used Argentina Cascade hops but beertools doesn't have those. They're a little different from cascade and lower in AAU.

Great Hoppy Goodness!

I was a little skeptical about this beer to begin with. It didn't seem like it had enough oumph by looking at my recipe. After 10 days in primary, I bottled and conditioned for 3 weeks before drinking. For those of you who like IPA's (and who doesn't?) I would suggest giving this a try. It's got a big hop flavor like an IPA, without the bitterness. Pours a nice 2.5-3 finger head. Dark amber color. Watch out for the American Ale yeast in this. I used the Wyeast smackpack and it just about blew the airlock off my fermentor. Very vigorous (sp?) fermentation. Will definately be brewing this again to tweak the recipe a bit, next time in an all-grain version.
IPA?

The IBUs are way too low to be an IPA.
Not an IPA

This isn't an IPA. I've labeled it as an American Amber Ale. That comment was actually aimed toward people who enjoy IPA's because the beer has a very hoppy flavor to it. Anyone who doesn't enjoy IPA's will probably not like this. Sorry for the confusion.
