Raspberry Vanilla Porter

Raspberry Vanilla Porter

Robust Porter • Partial Mash • 5 gal

sethuel1

I started this beer on 8/29/08 and it is currently happily bubbling away in the primary. The vanilla (2 whole "bourbon" beans from beanilla.com, scooped out and then cut into pieces, then sterilized in a small amount of vodka) and raspberries (frozen from Trader Joe's, hit with a meat tenderizer while frozen and then thawed) will be added to the secondary with the beer racked on top. The beer will spend about 1 month in the secondary with the raspberries and vanilla, then a week in a tertiary fermenter to get rid of some sediment, then be bottled for about 1.5 months before trying it. It should be ready for Christmas, hopefully.

too much raspberry

The beer is too thin to hold up to this much raspberry...at least at the moment. I'll let it age another several months before trying it again.
