This is hoppier then I wanted. my store was out of fuggles so I used First Gold. a higher aau but still good

Ingredients (Extract5 gal)

  • .5 lbs Dextrine Malt

also its almost a dark brown. added the DME when it was boiling still so it darkened alot

This was my first attempt at anything but just an extract can and a bag of DME. I followed The Brew-Masters Bible for how long and how to steep the Dextrin and wheat malt. The grain was steeped for 30min @ 122 then 20min @ 150 then 20min @ 158. These were used to make a medium bodied beer even though the OG was rather high so we shall see where it finishes up in 13 days

after 5 days in primary

after 5 days in primary a very cloudy rust color and a gravity reading of 1.0231 @ 60dF giving abv 5.2%...airlock still bubbling every 11 seconds

on the 7th day I took a reading. gravity change in last 2 days of .0020, Gravity after 7 days of 1.0211 giving ABV%5.5.. very strong hops aroma

7 days in secondary

After 7 days in secondary I cold crashed it for only a few hours due to the fact that it was 3d F outside. didnt want to risk any of it freezing. Bottled with 3/4C Priming sugar.

after a few weeks in bottle it is absolutely great. bit hoppyer than I had wanted but really good. crisp clean...no bitter aftertaste..very good

So with less then a gallon left it is definetely done. Its ubelievable. nice malty to hoppy balance perfect for an IPA although more closely to an american IPA then an English IPA..The best beer I have brewed yet
