Brown Silk Mild
Mild • Extract • 5 gal
This was a screw up on a brown ale. Overly carbonated, little flavor, drinkable but not great.

Not so Smooth

The process was perfect. Steeped grains in 152* water for 30 minutes. Boiled the hops as the schedule states. I don't know what went wrong because the OG came in at 1.031. I guess if anything it will turn out to be a hoppy Mild rather than a Brown Ale. Any ideas let me know.
Too much Crystal

I would say it was the 2lbs of Crystal you used. That is non-fermentable and that is why the FG was so high.
Still new at this

I think I realized that after I posted, but I should be able to keep about the same recipe and do it as a partial mash, right? I am about to do Partial mash beers from now on anyway to reduce the extract. next summer I will probably start to do full grain brewing, so I can really utilize the fresh flavors of the grains.
Changing the name

Since this one ended up with a much lower OG. This is now Brown Silk Mild. Racked to the secondary yesterday, and it looks good.
For a beer I screwed up on...

Bottled yesterday. This one has a good taste to it so far. But, it tastes like a decent flat mild, a little hoppy considering there isn't enough sugars to balance it, but it is good.
