Hokie Honey Wheat Ale

Hokie Honey Wheat Ale

American Wheat or Rye Beer • Extract • 5.1 gal

hokiebrewer

I'm brewing this up on Friday and I'll be using Orange Blossom honey, which will be added at flameout. I may make a few changes here and there before brewday. Cheers!

Ingredients (Extract5.1 gal)

  • .2 lbs American Caramel 40°L

Provides color, a unique flavor, body, and contributes to foam retention and beer stability.

  • 3 lbs Dry Wheat; Muntons

    Dry Wheat; Muntons

Made with a preponderance of wheat malt (55%) for the production of wheat or Weiss beers. Contains no colored malts or hops.

  • 2 lbs Dry Extra Light; Muntons

    Dry Extra Light; Muntons

Contains no colored malts or unmalted products; the light color of this product is achieved by using low processing temperatures and low-colored raw materials.

  • 1 lbs Honey

    Honey

Imparts sweet and dry taste. For honey and brown ales. Also: specialty ales.

  • 1 oz Cascade - 6.0 AA% whole; boiled 45 min

    Cascade

Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • .5 oz Cascade - 6.0 AA% whole; boiled 15 min

Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • 1 oz Cascade - 6.0 AA% whole; boiled 1 min

    Cascade

Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • White Labs WLP051 California Ale V

White Labs WLP051 California Ale V

From Northern California. This strain is more fruity than WLP001, and slightly more flocculant. Attenuation is lower, resulting in a fuller bodied beer than with WLP001.

Notes

Orange Blossom honey will be used, which I'm told imparts a citrusy flavor that I think will go along very well with the all-Cascade hop schedule.

Thanks for the recipe. I brewed this with only 10L caramel and .5 oz more cascade, but otherwise the same and I think its the best thing I've made so far. The orange blossom and cascade give it a very nice citrus-iness and hoppy flavor. Thanks again.
