Ingredients (Extract5.25 gal)

  • 0.50 lbs Belgian Caravienne

    Belgian Caravienne

    Belgian light crystal malt. Used in lighter Abbey or Trappist style ales.

  • 0.10 lbs Belgian Cara-Pils

    Belgian Cara-Pils

    Significantly increases foam/head retention and body of the beer.

  • 0.50 lbs Belgian Caramunich

    Belgian Caramunich

    Caramel, full flavor, copper color. For Belgian ales, German smoked and bocks.

  • 8.00 lbs Liquid Light Extract

    Liquid Light Extract

    A brewer can create any beer style with this extract when used as a base in conjunction with colored malts and selected hops. Contains no colored malts or hops.

  • 1.00 lbs Dry Wheat; Muntons

    Dry Wheat; Muntons

    Made with a preponderance of wheat malt (55%) for the production of wheat or Weiss beers. Contains no colored malts or hops.

  • 1 oz Northern Brewer - 8.5 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    Used for bittering with strong flavors and very fragrant in steam beers, dark English ales, and German lagers. Aroma is medium-strong with evergreen and mint overtones.

  • 1 oz Northern Brewer - 8.5 AA% pellets; boiled 20 min

    This yeast is famous for its clean flavors, balance and ability to be used in almost any style ale. It accentuates the hop flavors and is extremely versatile.

Notes

The name? We just happen to live in Salt Lake City and are the only people on our block who are not Mormon. I will use the "late extract addition" described in "BYO" this month. I'll boil the DWE for 60 min but add the liquid extract at the end of the boil. This should improve hop utilization (and can also lend a lighter color too, but my steeped grains are relatively dark)
