Hoppy Summer

Hoppy Summer

Standard American Lager • Extract • 5 gal

Kdog630

If I hadn't been trying to brew a lighter beer for summer, this would be close to the IPA I dream of in the winter. Darker than I thought it would be, and hoppy beyond belief. It was my first attempt at a full boil, instead of using 1 gallon and adding four in the fermenter. Next time, I'll reduce each hop addition by .5 oz.

    Hallertauer Hersbrucker

    Mild to strong. 'Noble'.

  • 2 oz Sterling - 7.5 AA% pellets; boiled 10 min

    Sterling

Perceived to be similar to a Saaz and Mt. Hood combination. Finding favor as a Saaz replacement.

  • Danstar Nottingham

    Danstar Nottingham

The Nottingham strain was selected for its highly flocculant & relatively full attenuation properties. It produces low concentrations of fruity and estery aromas and has been described as neutral for ale yeast, allowing the full natural flavor of malt & hops to develop. The recommended fermentation temperature range of this strain is 14° to 21°C (57° to 70°F) with good tolerance to low fermentation temperatures (12°C/54°F) that allow this strain to be used in lager-style beer. With a relatively high alcohol tolerance, Nottingham is a great choice for creation of higher-alcohol specialty beers!
