This is atake on a friend's Rye ale I tried.

Ingredients (Partial Mash5 gal)

  • .5 lbs American 2-row

    American 2-row

    Yields a slightly higher extract than Six Rox brewers Malt. Tends to give a smoother, less grainy flavored beer. Some brewers claim they can detect a significant difference in flavor. Lower protein and will yield a lower color than Six-Row Brewers Malt

  • 1 lbs Munich Malt

    Munich Malt

    Sweet, toasted flavor and aroma. For Oktoberfests and malty styles

  • .5 lbs Crystal Malt 20°L

    Crystal Malt 20°L

    Sweet, mild caramel flavor and a golden color. Use in light lagers and light ales.

  • .5 lbs Rye Malt

    Rye Malt

    Often used in German Ales and specialty beers

  • .25 lbs Dextrine Malt

    Dextrine Malt

    In light-colored beers to give additional body. Adds richness without color.

  • 4 lbs Liquid Light Extract

    Liquid Light Extract

    A brewer can create any beer style with this extract when used as a base in conjunction with colored malts and selected hops. Contains no colored malts or hops.

  • 1 lbs Corn Sugar

    Corn Sugar

    Use in priming beer or in extract recipes where flaked maize would be used in a mash.

  • 1.63 lbs Honey

    Honey

    Imparts sweet and dry taste. For honey and brown ales. Also: specialty ales.

  • 1 oz Centennial - 9.7 AA% pellets; boiled 60 min

    Aromatic but acceptable for bittering. Medium aroma with floral and citrus tones. Good in medium to dark ales.

  • 1 oz Cluster - 7.0 AA% pellets; boiled 20 min

    Used for bittering and flavor qualities in light and dark American lagers. Aroma is very floral.

  • 1 oz Cascade - 5.4 AA% pellets; boiled 5 min

    Spicy with citrus notes. Slightly grapefruity.

  • 1 tsp Irish Moss (15min) - (omitted from calculations)

Very nice

This brew turned out well, maybe not as good as my buddy's who I based it on, but good none the less. At the time, you couldn't find many rye beers, but that has changed, at least in Texas. This is a brew-over, so I will have it again!
