Double Duty Black IPA - Partial Mash
Imperial IPA • Extract • 5 gal
This brew is a tip of the cap to my favorite Negro League baseball player, Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe. Call this what you want, Black IPA, Imperial IPA/Stout, Double IPA/Stout. I like the term Black IPA just fine. High IBU + High SRM + High ABV = tasty tasty goodness in this hop-forward mildy toasty ale. I just bottled it last night and tastes phenominal!

2-Row Caramel Malt 10L; Briess
2-Row Caramel Malt 10L; Briess
Golden color and a candy like sweetness. Characteristics & Applications: • In contrast to Brewers Malt, glassiness is a distinguishing characteristic of Caramel Malt. The glassy endosperm creates the desirable non-fermentable components giving true Caramel Malt the ability to contribute body (mouthfeel), foam foam retention, and extended beer stability, while contributing color and unique caramel flavor. • Caramel 10L is a roasted caramel malt that imparts golden color. • Use 3-7% for Pilsener-style beers for balance. • Use 5-15% to provide color, sweetness and color to light amber beers. • Produced from AMBA/BMBRI recommended 2-Row Malting Barley varieties.

A superbly balanced blend of minerals, proteins, amino acids and vitamins essential to optimize yeast activity during fermentation, notably of high adjunct beers. Usage is approx. .8 - 1.6 oz per 10 bbl. Compare these dosage rates to other products, and you'll switch! IBU's should not be affected.

Huh?!?!

Not sure why the tag "Sierra Nevada Stout Clone" follows my recipe name. Please ignore. If this is close to any clone, it would be Stone's 11th Anni aka Sublimely Self-Righteous.
Wow

This is a bold brew. Just tasted my first bottle after 2 weeks of conditioning. Pours a dark brown and ruby color. Very little light making its way through my DFH tulip glass. 1 1/2 finger dense carmel colored head with retention lasting about 5 minutes. Lots of lacing on the glass. Face full of cascade in the nostrils, grapefruit, pine, hint of roasted malts. Taste is predominantly hoppy as predicted and suggested by the style. Less bitter and complex than Stone's 11th, but with some age these two could go toe to toe. My roomies (whom all appreciate a good craft brew) all chose mine as the preferred beer in a blind taste test. Good sign. I'm quite happy with it.

You can do a 4 liter starter or pitch 1.5 packages of US-05. I just reference mrmalty.com.
