Oats

Post by The Maddock »

Hello all. I have recently acquired a huge, 50# bag of oats. I am wondering, what can I do with these oats? I would like to malt them, but I cannot find any information on "Oat Malting" on the internet or books. Any help would be appreciated. -Maddock

I don't believe so. Whole oats is what the bag says, and they don't look as if processed in any way.

If they were rolled, like flaked barley, you could toss them in a mash directly. I think you might need to do a separate cereal mash, like when preparing corn for use in a mash.
