Why?

Post by TTTony »

No disrespect sir....Budweiser is a fine beer, but why go to all that trouble for a Bud clone?

There are so many more wonderful beers out there to try your hand at.

Making Bud at home

Post by BillW »

Bud costs about $13.99 for a 30 pack. It would cost you over twice that much to make it at home, and since its a lager beer, you need a refrigerator with a variable thermostat so you can ferment it at 50 degrees. You will not be able to make a decent American Style Lager beer using ale yeast and fermenting at room temp.

That being said, use the recipe calculator to make a beer of about 1.045 OG and around 20 - 25 IBU, 5 or so SRM. Use Tettnang as your bittering hop, and some Saaz about halfway through. You won't need very much hop at all to get to the 20 - 25 IBU range.

Good Luck, but personally, I don't think its worth the bother .

Use Rice!

Post by BillW »

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the adjuncts. AB uses rice. The easiest way to do this at home is by adding some rice syrup solids. About a half pound to a pound should do it.
