Stange Floating Stuff

What went wrong? Was this supposed to happen? Should I throw it out? What do I do now?

Stange Floating Stuff

Post by Grizz »

I brewed a batch up this weekend, it was a American Wheat. Used a Muttons Dry yeast for this one (I have never used muttons before). Well now after a few days things have settled down. Now I have tan brown clusters of sludge floating on the top. No strange smell coming from air lock. Is this usual with muttons or did I slip up in my sanitation?

I've had yeast that give off pretty nasty smells while they're fermenting and the smell goes away after a few weeks in primary. I'd just let it sit. It sounds like krausen to me.
Primary - Belgian Dubbel, Belgian IPA
Secondary - Cherry Lambic
Bottled - Bourbon Barrel Coffee Porter, Double Chocolate Raspberry Stout, Imperial Nut Brown, Apfelwein, American Amber Ale w/Homegrown Hops, Breakfast Stout
Kegged - Bass Clone, ESB

Thank you for your input on this. Kinda jumped the gun on this one. First Batch through my new Herms system. Had the pump lose prime while chilling and feared that I had a infection from the repriming process . Never seen krausen that look quite this way. Foam is almost settled down and this strange stuff is left.
