Yeast for American Wheat Beer

Post by abbiesdad »

Has anyone used the Wyeast 1010 American Wheat?

I am planning on an American Wheat for my next batch and was wondering what others use for the yeast. I have seen some use Northwest Ale and other ale yeast.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Blackberry Wheat

I used it in a blackberry wheat last year w/ good results. If you are planning on brewing an "orthodox" American Wheat, then I'd say go ahead and use it. You can always tweak the next batch if you feel the need to. Check out the descriptions at the Wyeast home page; http://www.wyeastlab.com/beprlist.htm

I've always been a big fan of Wyeast, but recently I used run of the mill Munton's dry brewing yeast in an American Pale Ale and it turned out great ($$ savings too!).

No matter what you decide to use for yeast, you should be sure to send me a six pack for evaluation.
