Crush Those Hop Pellets?

Post by cleone »

Is it recommended to crush hop pellets for the boil or just throw in whole?

Thanks

No need to crush them--throw them in whole. The boil will break them apart.

Hop bags

Post by brewmeisterintng »

It is advisable to use a hop bag for both whole and pellets. It is easier to remove them when the time comes. They come in both disposable and resuable types. I prefer the reusable secured with a small zip tie. There is enough junk left by the hot and cold breaks without having to worry about hops down there too. I siphon from my brew pot into my primary and still have a bunch of crud that makes it in. Yes, I have tried whirl pooling which helps. -James-
