ales vs. lagers

Lagers seem to be a bit more work than ales it seems to me, but it is done so there must be a benifit. What are the differences.... as in, taste clarity or whatever

I forget the numbers, but more lager beers are sold in the world than ales. I like the clean, crisp taste. Pretty much you're tasting just the ingredients that went into making it.

You could "simulate" a lager by using a very clean ale yeast, such as Wyeast 1056, and fermenting at the lower end of the temperature range. Most folks wouldn't know and you can reduce your cycle time to get more made.
