2nd yeast in 2ndary?

Post by muddypuddle »

Would you ever want to put a 2nd yeast (same as primary or different?) into the 2ndary?

Anyone try that and what were the results?

Thanks

A secondary fermentation is not really a fermentation at all. It is a clearing station. All your activity should be completed in your primary and by transferring to another vessel you are eliminating the trub and yeast remains from impacting the flavor of the beer as they break down.
Some brands who bottle condition will use a different strain than fermented with to keep their yeast strain proprietary.
