I knew I should have bought the cap instead of the stopper.
Would it be a bad idea to tape the thing down?

Poppin' the Stopper
Hi all, quick question. I purchased a 5 gallon carboy and a #7 stopper with hole from morebeer.com. I racked my Rasberry Wheat into in last week, and I pushed the stopper in and secured the airlock (after the stopper was in). The next morning I found the stopper almost all the way out of the hole. W...

% ABV Question
OK, let me see if I have this correct:
OG: 1.066
FG: 1.020 - (as expected)
= 5.9% ABV or did I miss calculate that horribly wrong?

Cool thanks
Good to hear, I use Star San as well. It felt like such a waste to be dumping 2.5 gallons just to take a sample. Next time I mix some up I'll keep more.
Do you cover your 5 gallon bucket with a lid to keep stuff from falling in it?

Keeping Sanitizing Solution
Question, is it a bad idea to keep a small amount of sanitizing solution in a jug or something? For example, say I want to take a gravity reading, well I need to sanitize my stuff to take the sample so I mix up .5 oz of sanitizer to 2.5 gallons of water and sanitize the sample taker. I don't want to...

Still not out of the woods
OK, so I put the lid back on the fermenter and hooked up a blow-off hose and put the end in a vase. Its been bubbling away nicely now since Wednesday. I thought I would check out its progress today to see about taking a gravity reading and possibly racking into the secondary. To my suprise though th...

Chillers, Immersion vs. Counterflow
OK, another question for the brew masters here. I'm looking into getting a chiller and want to know what you guys think is the best way to go. Currently I'm brewing 5 gal batches, but want to move up to 10 with-in a few monthes. Right now I have a 5 gal. kettle and boil about 3 gal. Should I go with...

Yet Another Kegging question
I have read many questions here reguarding kegging, and I think I pretty much have the process of getting it into the keg down. My question for all of you is how do you get it out? I've been looking @ MoreBeer.com and they have different faucets you can buy but I'm a little fuzzy on how you hook it ...

Thanks
Thanks for your words of wisdom, and encouragement. Just to let you know, I pitched at 75, but the fermenter hangs out in my coat closet which stays betwwen 66 and 71 degrees. The good news is the explosion only got my coats and not the little lady's. I still have activity in the blow-off setup so I...

Is it lost?
Hello all, I'm a newbie to brewing and I think I may have lost my first batch of beer. My two previous batches have been pretty good but the OG on both was between 1.040 and 1.049, so this time I decided to make a batch that would be a little stronger so here is what i have: 4 lbs wheat DME 3 lbs li...
