MESA

O.K. I guess the Magnesium greensand and 5 stage RO is not a good choice for the brewery, but what can I use on a by pass of these to remove the sulphur from my original water. I have not really brewed with this water yet, but I figured I shouldn't. I know the brewing process "cleanses" th...

Freon, I am about to hook it up

Below is the softner/filter system I am going to install: (questions below) Manganese Greensand Filter System: Our Iron Filter systems use a high quality manganese greensand media that effectively remove iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg odor) usually found in well water. The system i...

Great dissertation

With this news, I may be able to go back to doing more all grain. The time thing doesn't kill with that schedule. I've already told you that I am partial to German beers, so in my eyes, they know what they are doing.
Thanks for the great Info Eric.

Another

Depending on how bad the haze is, you may opt for an addition of Amylaze enzyme just prior to pitching the yeast. This is normally done in Pilsners, but if I am brewing a lighter beer, I normally use the enzyme. If your haze is pretty bad, you better stick with Eric's recommendations.

Since you let it stay there

Since you let it stay in the primary, just transfer into your bottling bucket and bottle it the reason for the secondary is to let the final fermenting yeast to consume the last bits of sugar and to fall out of the mix. You may have a slightly larger sediment in the bottles, but it won't be much mor...

Some off flavors possible

Since it has sat on the primary yeast cake longer than recommended, it may have some off flavors, but it will still be better than commercial beer. I don't believe you ever told us the type of beer you brewed. sometimes the style will mask any off flavors you may have. Try it, if you don't particula...

Hi, Welcome

Hi, and welcome to the craft. Tom was referring to the bottle conditioning that some high gravity or like he said complex flavor profile beers need to get to their optimal taste. Similar to wine. Most pale ales, pilsners, etc. are best within the first six months. So, unless you are getting into bar...

If the filter does too much

Billy B
You can also do the gelatin in the secondary, and then put the clear beer into the kegs.
Let us know how the filter does. I always wondered, but wasn't willing to invest for a filter or a C-P Bottle filler.

when and how

When and how do we get a tasdte of this award winning beer?
I think we need to start a beer by mail swap. I'm sure we can find a way to do this.

What about

I have never filtered, so I can't help much except: Wont filtering take out some of the wanted complexities of taste and mouthfeel of your brew? If time allows, I would let the cold do your filtering for you, and avoid the plate filters. Do you have that much of a problem with chill haze? Try to add...

Splashing/bubbling

The most splashing or bubbling I ever encountered was in the first one or two bottles while the racking tube and filler were filling with the beer. Try to fill the line with water and to discard the first water/beer you bottle. This may help since the air wont be present.

Sorry Fraoch

It isn't the ingredients. I use only malt hops water and good yeast. Unless making a specialty beer like honey ale(You couldn't really make it without honey) You must not have read the entire thread. I don't get a headache with bottle conditioned or air pushed kegs, just with the CO2 I think the oth...

Houston, I think we found our problem

I do not have a filter on my setup. I don't remember ever seeing a filter on any setups before. I am getting a headache, not from the co2, but from all of the crap other gases/impurities that i'm getting with the CO2.

Natural carbonation is great.

I do not get a headache when I drink bottle conditioned beer. I don't get one when I drink any bottled beer, or keg beer that is pushed with air. But when you apply the CO2 tank, I am going to have a headache the next day. 2 beers or 20 beers the headache may be worse with the more consumed, but it ...

CO2 Hangover/Headache

Does anyone else experience the morning after hangover, headache when they use bottled CO2 to carbonate, and "push" their brew. I always thought I was nuts, (Well, I probably still am) but some other people I know have also stated the same thing. Bottled CO2=headache, whether it be domesti...
