Rod, I was doing some reading on this earlier. So, there are two schools of thought? Looks like some put a lower pressure on the keg and let it set for a week or so and the others that force carbonate by putting the keg at 20-30# and slowly rocking the keg on it's side (over simplifying it). Is ther...

Both are good ideas. I have seen the wine tasting kits like this, a friend had one. Kind of handy. Thanks

I like the idea of small batches too. Since I'm still a neophyte I have to figure out how to scale down recipes. It would be more fun to brew 3 or 4 small 2.5 gallon batches.....

beer tour of tastes!

So here is the deal. I have always liked micro brews and some bigger ones. I have hated the mega beers as I always thought they were crappy water. BUT, I am in the dark when it comes to all of the flavor variations, hops tastes ect. I need everyone's help! The next beer fest around here -that I can ...

Actually, I just realized where you are. IL is where the main supplier is for shops out in CO. I found the seller's web page - they show a semi loaded to the top with them. In general, if you can find something at HF, you save a pretty good amount of cash. I've also found that Ace Hardware carries a...

My LHBS sells used kegs for $25. I have to buy new gaskets for a couple bucks, but I don't mind at that price. Man that's lucky..... I would do a couple at that price.... I'm cheap, so there is always some industry you can get parts and pieces from cheaper than the hobby sellers.... If you don't ha...

Very nasty "craft", pretty lethal stuff to distill and drink. 180 proof is pretty toxic AND Explosive. That's what makes this whole part of our heritage so amazing..... FYI, this type of thing is rampant with people trying to save a buck and make their own alcohol fuel. When I was looking ...

Kegging - less than full kegs? setting up kegs-my info

I'm jumping back into brewing with both feet I guess.... I went out and got a 5 gallon syrup keg and the fittings today. So the question is, can I put 3 gallons in and bottle the rest? I'm splitting the batch with my buddy at work and don't want to be a jerk and keep it all at my house..... So the p...

I think the overflow tube is going to be on there a while longer, it was still 2" up in the tube when I left work.... It's all sealed up, so there is no need to put the air lock on any time soon.

Ok, have a question on this. It's going on day 5 and I still have krausen in the blow off tube. It receded yesterday afternoon to about 3" in the neck of the carboy, so I was tempted to put the air lock on. Glad I didn't. I got into the office this morning and it was back up 3" into the tu...

distillation at home is illegal. I believe you need a license from the government to distill. You have been warned. Very true, it's actually a misdemeanor and I am not recommending people try it. Thank you for re-iterating that, someone may have missed it.... That was not the intention of this post...

brew of a different type... The passing of a legend.

I hope this is OK with you guys, I felt it was something everyone here could take interest in. Moonshine isn't too far off from beer.... I've always thought it would be fun to brew up a batch of shine. My Grandfather had friends back in KY that did it years ago, I got to taste some cut to 100-120 pr...

I was pretty paranoid, so was overly careful with everything.... Except the filtering. I had everything laid out and arranged so nothing would get in the way. I even used a boil control in the pot so there was no chance of a boil over....
