Window Screen - for better or for worse
Just my two cents...If your able to pour out of the kettle, this has worked for me. I had some plastic window screen material lying around and zero money to spend on a strainer, sieve, etc. I cut a section large enough to fit down into a bucket about 4" and down the sides of the exterior roughl...

In Search Of The DIPA Clone
Greetings, I'm looking some help identifying a clone for Victory Brewing's Hop Wallop. I just tried it this past week and I have to say, it suits me very well...if I can brew this beer (or something darn close) I will have reached homebrew nirvana. Let me digress... My googling has yielded very litt...

Keg Cleaners
Greetings all, I just received my dual keg system from Keg Connection last night and while reading the cleaning instructions, there's a reference to Straight A. Now I've read in previous posts about using Oxyclean as an alternative to other cleaners out there...would this be on of those cases? If so...

What temp?
At what temp would the wort be kept overnight?
I too have been mulling over "segmented brewing" manplant and I was thinking of bringing the wort temp down close to 32*F until ready to brew.
Would this prevent the threat of souring?

Remaining yeast in the keg
I too am looking to join the keg ranks though the funds aren't quite there yet. Right now, I am pricing and researching. When kegging, what's happening to all the extra yeast that's present after racking? Does it get flushed out the first few pours? It doesn't sound like anyone's filtering prior to ...

Just chuck, then bag your tube!
kangarool, I'd just chuck if I were you. I usually dry hop with whole leaf in my secondary, then use a sanitized hop sack tied to the submerged end of my racking tube to filter the hops out...works awesome.

Leaking Lids
Cappy...glad your Red is turning out! I know that "WHEW" feeling when you find out your yeast is working. I too use a plastic bucket-type primary, and I've found that the lid tends to leak, causing no bubbling in the blow-off tube or air lock. As a result, I use whatever heavy items in my ...

We'll see
Seems like I'll just be throwing them in the boil to see how it turns out...the first time I used whole hops was on an amber which wasn't very hoppy by design.
Thanks for the input all...we'll see how it goes.

Dry Hop & Contamination
I've dry hopped 4 out of 5 batches so far and no issues yet...though I do not use the hop sack in the vessel...I use it as a filter on the end of my racking tube when transferring to the bottling bucket. This method works really well for whole leaf hops, yet still allows suspended yeast to pass thro...

Down off the ledge
Thanks gents...you talked me down off the ledge. I get a little carried away with the thoughts sometimes...although if I get the opportunity with hops to spare, I may try this still minus the water addition...but that may not happen for a couple of growing seasons with any luck. Because the whole fl...

Home-made Hop pellets
I just acquired a big ziplock baggie filled with freshly picked Cascade hops. This has got me thinking about how I'm going to use them. The last time I used some whole flowers in the boil, I found that they floated the entire time. Once I strained them out of the wort, I noticed ample amounts of lup...

Feel for you
Legman...sorry for the misfortune...good save on the beer!!!
I hope you have an Aloe plant near by...they're pretty effective for most burns I've had...cut, squeeze, and apply.
And I though my 3 stitch laceration on my forearm was bad (broke my 5 gal glass carboy when cleaning it on Labor Day)...
