it makes sense
it makes sense. my only batch that really came out good was an IPA. possibly from large amounts of hops? I heard that hops can take care of small amounts of bacteria, is this true?

not yet
I havent had a chance to try that one again yet. It was an IPA kit. I have another IPA kit from another Co. that I will try next.
There is a local ice co. that doubles as a brewery. Mabe I will try their water. I heard it is good for brewing, or should I just use some from the store?

I've got to get obsessive here
my latest batch is infected again. I am hoping my new cleaner and sanitizer will solve this problem, but I want to get some opinions about the way I brew... first, the spoon I use to mix the wort while it is brewing sits on a dish inbetween stirs. should I be rinsing and sanitizing each time. Also t...

The PBW i got is just a one pound container(not seperated) do you know how many tablespoons of it equals 2 oz? Also, how long do you keep it? Can I store it to use multiple times?

question for Billybock about Star San + PBW
The stuff I ordered finally came in. I ordered directly from 5-Star not knowing I could have gotten it quicker from most home brew suppliers (and cheaper too). Oh well... Anyway, I noticed that they offered a kit which had measured amounts of PBW and Star San along with a "quick reference card&...

adapters
If you could find the right fittingd(female pin lock to barb and male ball lock to barb) you could make a couple fittings to adapt by connecting them with a small piece of tubing

no light
that was the first thoughts from other members here a while ago when I had some issues, so I made a fermentation chiller which took care of the light and temp issue. So now pretty much all that is left is my sanitation

no full boil
I usually boil about 2.5 gallons, then put the pot in a sink with ice water around it. It comes down below 100 deg.s in less than a half hour or so. Then I add it to another 2.5 gallons of cold water in my fermentor, which brings it to under 80 or so.
Do you think that is too long to cool?

i like beer
and all types. There is definitely something wrong with them. I have been doing kits of beer styles I love, so I doubt seriously that they are supposed to taste that way. Ive got an American Amber in the primary in the chiller. I ordered the stuff Bill advised for cleaning and sanitizing so hopefull...

I'm on it
I remember you suggesting this stuff a while back, so now I'm gonna try it.
Is it OK to leave it in the keg(stainless) or the glass carboy for a while?
I'm gonna order some so I can use it on my secondary(I have a batch in primary right now)
How does PBW work? should I get some of that too?

cleaning
I scrub the inside of it with a large brush and flush it real good. Then I let it sit with either Iodopher or B-brite in it(corked) till I need to use it again. Then I flush it again and use Iodopher, drain and let air dry. The type is a Nut Brown Ale. I dont know how but I think I am not being thou...
