I had not checked that site but I will. I'm 12 batches into my obession and I've pretty much trial & errored my way to the larger starter. I plan on letting the yeast do some clean up for a week or so then cooling in the garage before kegging. This was the first time I re-pitched yeast from my l...

Overpitching w/large starters
Lately, I've been pitching starters anywhere between 2-3 qts in size using White Labs vials with great results and super fast fermentations!!! This week I brewed Monday afternoon and pitched the starter late Monday night. I took a gravity reading today as I saw no bubbles (they must have stopped ove...

Eyeballin's not so bad
Suthrncomfrt1884...I understand where you're coming from but the differences in scoops are minimal at best, a small fraction of a gram. I cannot see too much of an impact as a result. Plus, my doctor says I gots good eyeballs, LOL! So the continuous hopping was a success. Very good aroma which I was...

new to the whirlpool method
I used to just pour from the kettle to the primary using a piece of sanitized plastic window screen secured to the primary with rope. This worked well with no detected problems for the beer. Only problem I had was as the trub collected in the screen, the wort had increasing difficulty finding any su...

TIMBER!
I cleared out a portion of my back yard to dedicate to growing this year, roughly 15' X 30'. I saved some of the trunks from the trees I cut down to use for growing, tent/teepee style set up. I'm hoping to get several different varieties - the 3 C's, possibly Chinook, Newport or some other high alph...

I would think unless you are not present during the boil, the easiest thing would be to add hops manually. I kept staring at my watch to keep the intervals spaced evenly. Preparation would also make it easier...I mulled over several different ways of separating the hops into equal size groupings or ...

Secondary transfer
I racked to the secondary this past Saturday and I have to say, the gravity sample tasted great. This is my first brew to tasted very close to some commercial brews I enjoy, though it was not finished quite yet.
Great hop aroma and flavor...more to come.

Sweet Info
Legman...first off, thanks for the process breakdown. It's pretty much convinced me to go forward with yeast harvesting! I was just at my LHBS today gathering some info on the Yeast Bank. The vials in it are tiny, about the size of my index. The bigger vials like WL's would be perfect. Here's to yea...

The Process
Legman, did you follow the steps to a "T" as listed on the homebrewtalk link? If not, where did you vary? Also, did your frozen yeast come from the primary or straight from a fresh vial (I'm assuming White Labs)? Country Wines is my LHBS, so if this process is simple enough, I'll be pickin...

How much should you capture?
I too am considering the yeast re-pitching but I will have a lag time between batches of about 2 weeks. Couple of questions: 1. How much should I capture from my primary to re-use? 2. Say I make a 3 qt starter with this yeast and split into several pint containers, will they keep in the fridge for m...

Where's my money?
I've been brewing as much as time and funds allow. I too check in just about every day to see what's happening, what kind of nuggets of great info I can find. I just finished my first all grain yesterday, tentatively titled 6th Ring IPA (I'm a Steelers fan). 10# german pils + 2# dark munich...great ...

Merely days
Sean...my first go around with force carbonation took about 4-5 days to fully carbonate using the following schedule: Day 1 - Agitate (shake it, rock it, what have you) @ 10 PSI Day 2 - Same as Day 1 Day 3 - Check pressure Day 4 - Check pressure, drink beer...I don't recall if it was "100%"...

Brinkman Turkey Fryer
Greetings all, Has anyone out there used, or know someone that has used, the Brinkman Turkey Fryer for brewing? I just bought one from Home Depot yesterday for a couple reasons: - Price - wife wants the brewing out of kitchen - I want to move to all grain It's got a 45,000 BTU burner and an aluminum...
