Nope

Make sure the syrup is PURE MAPLE, not Log Cabin, and no preservatives. The honey is the same, no preservatives. Also the TYPE of honey will matter, i.e. Clover, Orange Blossom, ect. I personally use Clover and have had great results with a Honey Brown clone I make, and I also have a Tommy Knockers ...

Pref

This is a long standing battle.. I personally crush 50 lbs. of base grain and shove it in a cooler; only 40 lbs fit so I bre that day. I have used base as old as 5 months, crystal/dark malts should keep longer; less moisture. MY THEORY ONLY.... Keep the little critters out and it should be fine. Mal...

Flip Top

I use the flip tops when I make a specialty beer, harvest yeast, or want to give a beer away. They are so much easier to use, no capper, and the only thing is to replace the rubber once a month.

Yeast

Sounds like maybe the bottles/secondary got warm enough to kill the yeast. If you used priming sugar adding more will not help, you need suspended yeast. Use dry yeast for this; done this only ONCE before, and place 3-4 grainuals in each bottle and recap. The yeast should show activation within two ...

Mini-Brew

Last year my lovely wife bought me a Mini-Brew conical from the homebrew shop for about $100.00. It's a plastic conical; please save snickering for last :-), holds 6.5 gallons; easily enough to make a FULL 5 gallon batch, is alittle over 3' tall, and has two stainless ball valves for trub removal; b...

darker

It's got the wort chiller going now. It's higher OG than the calculater said, darker also.. It's about 1.074 and deep amber. Place the hose/hop bag at the end of your hose; you have a spout it's just farther away :-), also leave about 4-5 inches for trapping..

most

get as much out as you can, i use panithose or a hop bag on the end of my mashing tun spout to catch most. What's left will not hurt your beer unless it's left ontop to long after primary is done. I remove after 7days Happy Brewing, Malt Vault p.s. making Rhinos Oven Roast now.. Think it sound ok? l...

HOT!

Simply add 2 oz. of fresh jalapenos to the secondary of your favorite basic beer. Rhinos Basic Beer II; which is in the recepie library under american standard lager, is a great basic recepie and is easily modified with flavorings, specialty grains, or whatever. It is the base of most of my ales. Go...

Ok

Trub is a term for the sediment left after the primary is over, it contains yeast, hop/grain dust, and other solids. What you are describing is grain dust, or protien rest if using extract. That has no bearing on the finished beer. AFTER primary though, rack into clean secondary leaving the primary ...

Space

I brew/drink in a one beadroom apt., no room for the kegging system I'd like, so I use the Party Pig. You do not pump air into the pouch, you pressureize the Pig and a vinigar/baking soda solution expands the pouch. Since the air you pumped in is bled out, no frets, also the inside of the pouch neve...

Should be ok

As long as the wort is boiled/steralized and cooled. Remember though, you have live yeast in your beer, new sugar will restart fermentation, be sure you have enough room in the fermentor for fermentation.
Good Luck,

Welcome

Welcome to the 10% of the population that brews. I never got caught up in the Mr. Beer thing, but keep the fermenter for mead, or a 'special' beer so you can give it aging time. Anyhoo, a quick note on what to get when you upgrade. When you buy your kit make sure it's glass. Do NOT let them sell you...

Got one

I am kind of a 'beer cloner'. I find one I like in the bar, and I can get pretty close from tasting it. Since I've never had that beer I had to research it, and came up with this receipe. I've made this beer before, just modified it a bit to get the character you desired. Below is the fuit of my lab...

Oh Yea

I started as an extract brewer, made good beer, then I got into mini mashes and made better beer, I do all grain now with some adjuncts like honey and the such and now make GREAT beer!! I've had people offer to buy it from me, but since that's illegal we tend to barter for it. Alll grain is easy, ju...
