Careful..
Our local homebrew supplier does not do very well. Here are some of the reasons why; 1) He started for the same reason it seems you want to; to serve his own (and few friend's) needs. 2) He can't serve craft brewers very well because we use sooooo many different ingredients which he just can't keep ...

Taste It
I usually make my starters in the late evening, and pitch them the next day (mid-day). At that time, they are bubbling like mad. I generally use a little more DME than you though. I never let one go for 36 hours, but I imagine that it would be flat by then. Can you pull a little out of the jar and ta...

Recipe
There is a recipe posted on this site called "DMT Wit". I've made it twice with good results. I use klages in almost all of my recipes because I get it for a good price, you may want to sub belgian pale to be more true to style.

OK a few more things
My beer club maintains an inventory. I know that the current beertools app has an inventory tool, but we do it with spreadsheet, heres why; we have a need for some accounting functions. When a club member buys a sack of grain, for example, he gets so many dollars worth of club credit. We can also ke...

A few more things
What about integrating step mashing & decocotion mashing into your software, essentially going beyond ingredients and into process. You may even be able to allow users to record and track fermentation temperature profiles!

A few things come to mind...
Although my exposure to other software (i.e. promash) had been very limited, I really like the beertools recipe generator/calculator. The only things that I can think of off the top of my head are things you probably have already done; 1) Recipe generator's style, grain, etc selection lists are too ...

Personal Responsibility
First of all, I agree wholeheartedly that this BS about our government trying to legislate self control and dictate morality is just that....BS. This comes from an unhealthy cultural concept that someone else is responsible for our well-being. This has been the American Mantra for some time. Too man...

Plastic Conis
My club uses 15gal plastic conicals. I know that stainless is better, but these seem to work pretty good, in fact we liked the first one so much, we bought 3 more. The benefit that we most enjoy is the easy removal of trub. After primary fermentation, I can remove the hops trub, and dead yeast from ...

JSP Second
I have been all-graining for about a year now and until a couple months ago, I used my old corona mill. The problems I had with the corona were as such; 1) too much dust- even when I used washers to expand the coursest setting, I produced too much flour. 2)husk damage - although it doesn't pulverize...

Fermenter Buckets
Hello Liquid Blur, I'm glad to see that you have found the best homebrew resource on the web! The folks here are always very helpful, and have helped me advance from 5 gallon extrcat batchs to 10gallon all-grain. To answer your question, in my opinion, you are best off with a bucket and a carboy. Th...

Tonite's Top Ten
Ok heres a shot at it; Things I expect; 1)Experienced brewers making great beer. A good selection/rotation of great beers. 2)Good location - for me, I prefer suburb locations as opposed to city. Easier to park, you dont get lost, and closer to home for many families. 3)Great food - I'd expect a real...

Recipe Database Issues
Not to change the subject, but..... I rarely see any comments in the recipe archive, other than brewing notes by the author. This is a flaw (and its our own fault) of the recipe archive at beertools. When I first started tinkerng w/ homebrew, I used the free tools here on this site. I probably have ...

Uh Oh!!
I don't know the answer, but I think I'll find out soon... You have jogged my memory of a 5 gallon carboy of porter thats been sitting hidden in my coldroom for over a year now. A fellow we know came to brew with us one day (his first time) After that, he lost interest and never felt like coming bac...

Yes, Read His Post!!
I had a similar problem with a Witbier, followed by a more severe case in an APA. I have since consumed the Witbier with somewhat of a grimace (hey...its still better than buying beer). I took Brewer2001's advice regarding the APA, and put it in cold storage for a couple weeks. I had to break it out...

Spent Grains
I have a pile of spent grains as high as an elephant's @&% in the weeds behind my house. Has anyone found any creative uses for this stuff??? I know from experience that when left to sit in a pile, they really start to smell, so making piles for kids to play in should not be listed as a "cr...
