Congrats and good luck with the first brew. I remember mine. Was nervous as hell, but 4 weeks later I couldn't have been happier. And yes, this is a cool site. I've gotten good advice and instruction from here. Let us all know how it turns out. Next time, go for the 5 gallon batch. You'll be wishing...

I've tried a couple of them, Redbridge and New Grist (think that was the name). I also know someone with a wheat allergy and plan on doing a sorghum brew at some point.

I've had a few of them including the Polygamy Porter. One of the others was St. Provo Girl. Great names and I love the labels. Oh yeah, and the brew is good too.

I recently brewed a porter with fresh mint leaves and used 2.25 oz. Been in bottles for almost 8 weeks and its got a nice mint flavor to it. Not overpowering and not too subtle. Yours may come out mintier (if that's a word) because I also had 2 oz of vanilla extract in it. I just steeped it whole (n...

Ok, so this has been fermenting now at about 50 degrees for 3 weeks and the gravity has only dropped to 1.028 from 1.051 with an expected final gravity of 1.013. The airlock is still bubbling about every 20-30 seconds. Should there be any cause for alarm? I'm thinking not, but since this is my first...

Can't change OG

Just brewed a batch of blonde ale today and when I went to change my OG to what I actually had, BTP wouldn't let me. It keeps going back to 1.046. I can change it in my other recipes, but for some reason, not in this one. HELP!

Thanks slothrob. Guess I didn't really need to ask how long it should be in the primary. DUH! I was more concerned about the temp.

Lagering Help

I'm about to make my first lager (Oktoberfest) and have been reading a bunch of old posts on here about how to do so, but now i'm more confused than before. Can someone please answer the following questions for me? 1) How long should it be in the primary and at what temp? 2) How long should it be in...

I too live in AZ and have had problems getting a low enough fermentation temp. So far I haven't had too bad of a problem, and as a new brewer myself, just recently learned the evap trick which I will definately be trying out this summer. I made an amber and a red last summer that turned out pretty d...

Only 5 more days till brew day!!!! Thanks everyone for your input so far. Not sure yet how I'm doing the chilis, but will let you all know which way I do, how much, and of what variety. As of now leaning with after boil and primary fermenting with 6-8 oz of serrano chilis. I figure if its not the sp...
