mash tun capacity could be factor...
When making an ale with a target gravity of 1.058 or greater, which is usually the case, I have to lower the grist to water ratio so all the grain will fit into my 5 gallon mash tun. Based on your suggestions I need to increase the capacity of my mash tun to allow for a 1.33 ratio and improve my eff...

does over-milling effect mash conversion?
I have been trying to increase my mash efficiency with little success. Can't seem to get over the 65% mark. I have hard water. So, I adjust the sparge water pH with acid. I use a 1.1 to 1.2 quarts water to 1 lb grain ratio. I do single infusion mashes for 60 minutes that hold great between 148 and 1...

to weld or not to weld....
that is the question I am faced with right now. I want to add a number of gizmos to my new system that require a number of ports on my M/L tun and HLT. How good are the weldless connections? Do they stand the test of time? The welded connections sure do look nice, but how is it done? Are they brazed...

mash tun options
Once my tax return arrives (thanks kids!) I will have the funding to acquire a mash tun for the 10 gallon system that I have been tinkering with for the last six months. Ideally I will be able to easily clean the mash tun, have good insulative properties, and be able to set up a recirculating mash w...

Which would you recommend? The Intensive Brewing Science and Engineering (IBS&E)course or the
Craftbrewers Apprenticeship Program (CBA)?
has anyone out there taken either of these classes?

education options?
I am seriously considering a change in direction. I think I want to run a micro-brewery when I get up. What education opportunities are available that would assist me in successfully obtaining my new goal? I want to pursue this with all that I have. Trouble is, all I have is a couple of hours a nigh...

milky white enviro tubing
It is left over sample pump tubing from an environmental groundwater sampling job. Never even left the workshop. The exterior is milky white and firm. Going to buy the compression fittings after work. thanks for the input!

tubing question
I have come across 150 ft of teflon lined polyvinyl tubing. 3/8 inch ID and 1/2 inch OD. temp rated to 350F and pressure rated to 250 psi. It is not real easy to work with because it is not real flexible. anybody know of a reason why I should not use this tubing to hook up my new pump to my brewery?...

Chinook fine by me...
I use Chinook as a bittering hop for my IPA and pale ales. Coupled with Cascade for flavor and Aroma you can't go wrong. Maybe you didn't get fresh Chinook hops.
