Adjuncts or add junk

I'm not a real sticler on any "laws" I gues I should ellaborate. I began brewing, because I didn't like the flavor of the US Mega Brewers offerings. Even the so called "specialty beers" they produce leave a lot to be desired. When Amber Bock came out, I rushed out to buy some, and was very disappoin...

Dorothy

You Guys are awful sensitive. If you want to use adjuncts, do so. I would rather have more flavor in my beer. Most wheat beers seem overdone to me also. Wheat makes the beer sour. Wheat, Rye, and yes maybe even corn may not be bad in small quantities, all I'm saying is if it is overdone, it doesn't ...

That's it

That just about what I had in mind. It can be small enough to put in the dishwasher with my other brew stuff.

Peculiar

Its kind of odd that when Austrailia began brewing their beer was so bad no one would drink it, not even Australians. Now, they make Foster's, and Sheaf Stout, and it is premium beer. Either a complete turn around, or some great marketing. I'll stick to Home Brew.

Got Me

Jim got me on the 1516 law. This is the first time in abot 5 years that I have broken it though, so that's not too bad. The US mega brewers over do the corn to the extent it turns me off.
Thanks Steve, I'll try mine then too probably. The brew closet smells good enough to try to drink it now.

Things I've seen

I seen site with people's own designs on them and it got me wondering. One guy made one with a mason jar. But he stated on it that he had a problem with leakage. That one didn't sound like a good one. I thought I would check into the filter and see what it was rated at. If this isn't a viable altern...

Hopback

I've never used a hopback, but that was what I would be using the filter assembly for. I think it was ed that said he put leaf hops in a strainer and poured the wort over them. I was thinking of making a closed system, and run the wort through the hops using the filter housing. I wasn't really going...

Clean, or ale-like

If you want a cleaner taste, and don't want the yeasts competing too much in flavor try Superior lager and Nottingham ale. Both are dry, and have clean finish. If you want a unique flavors, do some experimenting to see what you like. The above two compliment each other well.

Belgian Strong Ale

I'm making a Belgian Strong ale. It will have an alcohol content around 10% but it isn't a blond ale, so I don't think you can call it a trippel with the Style gestauppo. I used 1/2 a pound of belgian dark candy sugar, so it changed the color more to a light amber color. This is my first attempt at ...

I usually

I usually place my "dry hops" into my pot after the boiling stops until the wort is chilled. I think the heat brings out the oils more. This might not be true dry hopping, but that what works for me. It seemed to lose something or not to gain anything by placing it in the secondary. I also want the ...

Pickling Salt

I use mortons pickling salt. Pretty much the same as the salt on soft pretzels. I load up the bottom part of the dishwasher with the bottles(48 fit nicely) and the top part with my beer glasses/mugs two tablespoons of the salt is enough for the wash.

Yeast energizer

Have you tried yeast energizer, or yeast nutrient? Sometimes the sugar content is too high, and the yeast needs additional other nutrients to help them out. Also, If there are to many unfermentables, you can try some amalaze enzyme. If I question the amount of unfermentables, I usually put some of t...

Dishwasher hint

I was my bottles and beer glasses in the dishwasher, but I don't use the detergent. I put one step in the prewash area, and sone coarse salt in the wash area. You can't get any closer to beer clean. I have a nice rocky head on my beer, that lasts until its gone. Of course, that doesn't take too long...

Zep Fan

Hey, I'm a Zep Fan too. Don't think Page and Plant should have tried the "reunion type tour" They should have listened to Niel Young's better to burn out than to fade away. They still rock, but they ain't Zep. Anyway, what Amber Extract are you using. I used to get Breiss malt, but then they took it...
