The example file was posted by the original editor of the page, so the genius on that is all theirs. I guess that's good, because the error is theirs as well. I have to look at one of my recipes real quick to see if I fell into the same trap on the decoction issue... Oh, wait. I have yet to d...

Should ingredients be omitted from the list of "savable" items in a template? Is there ever a reason to have ingredients included? I suppose someone who always adjusts their water with a tablespoon of gypsum might want that, but maybe the program can disallow grains/adjuncts/hops, etc.

You do get lists of ingredients as well as a schedule for you mash, although it sounds like you will not be mashing. I do not believe there is a feature for converting from all-grain to extract. The latest issue of Zymurgy has some recommendations for doing that. Not handy at the moment, but I belie...

Thanks. Someone else laid out an earlier draft, but being the BJCP nerd that I am, I developed it quite a bit further.

I added some information on decocting to the wiki on Saturday 20 Jan 2007. It includes a sample decoction schedule. I am not sure if it explains how it works in BTP well or not. Look it over and let us know on the forum here if it adequately addresses your concerns. If not, we can all have a stab at...

I'm not sure why I put this in a bug-related thread. I guess I was trying to hijack, but not intentionally. Anyway, these were some thoughts on water handling and integration: A couple things I would like with the water, besides the volume of water adjusting based on changes in the recipe, would be:...

I believe you do want to calibrate everything. A PITA, but it allows the program to manage your time schedule much more accurately. For instance, the program will know how long it will take to heat your infusion water, etc. This is all shown in the schedule graph. Some educated guesses and tinkering...

For Safari users, you go under the preferences, general tab and uncheck "open safe files after downloading" to make dmg's not automatically mount. There are security concerns about allowing dmg's to mount automatically.

RE: Water

A couple things I would like with the water, besides the volume of water adjusting based on changes in the recipe, would be: 1) Have a breakdown of the total weight of your mineral additions based on the separate water components in the recipe (i.e., mash water volumes for each infusion step, sparge...

I would like the program to take a look in my brew closet and figure out how much of everything I have. Alas, that's not realistic, so I third (or fourth) the ideas Brant suggested. That all sounds quite good.

As others have said, most important in session management would be a means of recording actual measurements from the brewed beer. Things like gravity pre-boil, S.G., volume in kettle pre-boil/post-boil, a dedicated notes area for making general comments, and a way to record times of key events, like...

I emailed the details to Gordon. There may be some current styles that are not covered in the Papazian book, such as Flander's sourc, but I do not have my copy here at work to see. Perhaps enough of the data will be available to fill most of the gaps. Palmer's values are too general in my opinion. I...

The Beer Judge Certification Program is the source for style information. Currently, there are no guidelines on carbonation other than descriptive ones. I was talking with Gordon Strong the other day (he has been the styles editor for the past few years) about this, and he was not aware of a good so...

I have done exactly that. If I am brewing a huge beer, efficiency tends to get whacked a bit, unless I do a really long boil (>>90 minutes), which I tend not to want to do. So I can make a DME adjustment if I want to based on that reading. I will have to play with the program some more to figure out...

The red circle that represents the close button in Mac OS X does not darken in the middle when updates to the recipe file have been made. This is standard GUI practice for OS X to indicate that you have made changes to a file that you should consider saving before closing.
