...For that matter, I now notice that no extract malts can be assigned brew time values. This seems odd becauce I can assign a brew time to things like maltodextrine and servomyces. Anyway, thanks for your idea. Maybe you misunderstand what extract malts are... they are basically concentrated wort....

I don't make extract brews very often, but I have used BTP to put together extract recipes for others and a partial mash recipe for myself. What I do is treat the steep/partial mash as a mash, and use the current mash schedule tools. Just put the grains in the recipe, then go to the "schedule displ...

Re: Still Waiting for Extract Functionality and Brew Day Uti

... I am annoyed at having paid for something that is basically of little use to me as an extract brewer and offers much less functionality and utility then older programs such as Pro Mash and Beer Smith. ... I am not sure if I understand how the program is of little use to you as an extract brewer...

Re: Algorithm

Which %U algorithm are you using? Yes, I am an idiot... the "boil time" correction one was filled, but not the gravity correction dropdown. It looks like there is HUGE deviation between the different types of gravity correction factors. I have a feeling they can not all be correct. :) Brewing is su...

IBUs bothering me...

This was brought up in the past, and something related to it in the "Mash Tun Heat Capacity Confusion" thread. When I have a finished recipe... I can go and lock the "Final Volume", and then drop the "Kettle Volume" very low, and in the meantime, the calculated IBU levels given in the Style/Bitterne...

Checkbox Suggestion

I suggest a checkbox be added to the "Mash In" popup that toggles the following-> x Direct Fired Mashtun When it is checked, the "Heating Vessel" dropdown becomes disabled, or disappears, so it becomes obvious what is going on. When it is not checked, the "Heating Vessel" dropdown becomes active, so...

Wiki Addition on "Mash In"

I have modified the "Mash In" portion of the wiki to reflect what Jeff has said above. I pasted a couple of sentences from his above post, and added one myself.

here-> http://www.beertoolspro.com/wiki/Mash_In

anyone can feel free to add or modify it...

cheers!

... If no heating vessel is selected, then BTP assumes that the water is heated in the mash vessel... OMG... all my numbers in BTP have been pretty perfect except for strike temps... I have had to offset a little bit to hit them, and I could never figure out why. I had always figured it was because...

Re: More on "Save As"

Jeff, I dug a little deeper into the "save as" bug. At first I was suspicious of ProMash files because of the .rec extension, but it appears that all files, regardless of native format, have the problem. I'm talking about files that I had entered manually into BTP or downloaded from the Beer Tools ...

Repeatable Bug

In the Water Chemistry window... here are the steps to repeat a bug 1. Add a water type. 2. Delete the water type, press OK to really delete on the popup window. 3. Realize you made a mistake, and try to undo it with Ctrl-Z (instinctual for me) 4. Nothing happens, so I realize that ctrl-Z may not be...

Thanks for the info Bill... It does sound like a complex subject matter... but, I am sure it would be less complex if some kind of "calculator" ;) figured out all of the nasty details for us. Here is another link on the subject... http://byo.com/departments/1550.html Krausening technically requires ...

Re: OG adjustment

The feature you are talking about is something that will be introduced in the future. It will involve the slider graphs in the style comparison tab below. The same type of thing will be possible with the other values such as color and bitterness. Sounds like good things are in store... I look forwa...

That sounds like a risky proposition, since it will be impossible to know the exact fermentability of the wort. I think you're asking for either flat beer or bottle bombs. I'd use table sugar. You'll never know the difference and the fermentability is a predictable value. Table sugar sounds like a ...

Ingredient Scaling for OG

Is there a way to scale the ingredients up or down to adjust OG? This is the process i would go through, for example. 1. Find a 5G recipe I like. 2. Enter in the ingredients into BTP. 3. I want to make a certain volume, let say 10L, so I scale down my volume to 10L. The ingredients scale down as wel...
