Turns out good
Well, I must say I'm pretty happy with the final result! It turned out very good, all my friends ask for more of that tasty wit!! It has good head retention all the way down. One morning, I found an unfinished glass that was left there all night long, and it still had a quarter-inch white head on to...

I now use a 4L plastic bottle (those used for spring water) for my 1,5-2L starters, but it still foams a lot even though I use foam drops. I don't know what's wrong, but maybe my aquarium pump is too strong or something. What I do is turning off the pump once it gets to the top of the bottle, just b...

Oily film
Hi guys, I opened a bottle yesterday and the beer tastes good! But as I thought, there is still something weird that made its way to the beer... Before opening the bottle, I examined the liquid in front of a light source, and I could see a tiny oily film on top of the beer. Something like oil or soa...

Haha
Haha! I think I'll take care of this myself :)
By the way, I bottled the beer and it seemed OK, I think the head isn't ruined.. I even saw belgian lace inside the bottling SS keg!
Ultimate test will be when carbonated and poured in a beer-clean glass.
I will let you know!
Fingers crossed :)

Soap in the beer ?!?
Hi guys, I noticed some strange bubbles (different sizes, some unsual big ones) on the head of my witbier. I first noticed the bubbles in the kettle before boil. Now it is almost ready to bottle, and when I pulled a sample for a gravity test, I saw those bubbles again sitting on top... Unfortunately...

!@#$ it !
!@#$ it !!!! I woke up this morning and the starter had blown-off the yeast again ! Even though I used foam control drops, the active yeast on top went in the sanitizer jar... !@#$... I now understand that a 2L Erlenmeyer is too small for a 1,5L starter.... I'll get back to 4L plastic water bucket. ...

Hello guys, I've bought some foam control drops and just did a starter with it. Seems to do the job perfectly ! As for the last batch, it turns out OK after 1 month bottle conditionning, but there is some yeast off-flavor detectable, especially in such a relatively clean style that is Cream Ale. I g...

Enough yeast for bottling after cold conditionning?
Hello, I will brew an Irish Red next week and plan to let it in the primary at 66F for two weeks (or until FG is almost reached) than transfer it to secondary and let it cold condition for 4 weeks at 40F. The goal is to clear it up and have the smoothest Irish Red possible. My worry is about the yea...

Extreme starter blowoff issue
Hi guys, I've just prepared a 1500mL starter last night and it kind of over-foamed during the night as I lost 50% of it in the sanitizer jar :( The starter was prepared with 150g of DME into an 2000mL Erlenmeyer flask, with 1/2 tsp of yeast nutrients and 2x WLP001 California ale liquid yeast. I use ...

Thanks again, I'll know now for MoreBeer, but I use pumps in my setup so I couldn't use a foaming sanitizer such as StarSan. Anyway, the topic here is more about steam sanitizing. I find it interresting because I think it could reduce sanitizing time if I only have to spray steam on all equipment, a...

Steam and hot water sanitizing
Hello, I used a no-rinse sanitizer (OXY-SAN) for all equipment since I started brewing, but head retention problems made me think of eventually rinsing with boiling water or using steam. 1- If I sanitize using only boiling water (no chemicals), how much contact time would be enough ? 2- In "Bre...
